Fidas® Frog the fine dust aerosol spectrometer


The fine dust aerosol spectrometer Fidas Frog from Palas measures fine dust pollution indoors.


The Fidas® Frog enables a fast, reliable and quality-assured determination of fine dust pollution, e.g. in the context of monitoring health, safety and environmental protection (HSE) at the workplace or in the area of indoor air hygiene (e.g. office, public buildings such as schools, passenger compartments, etc.).

It simultaneously measures the environmental mass fractions PM1, PM2.5, PM4, PM10, TSP as well as the particle number and particle size distribution in the particle size range 0.18 - 40 µm. By providing the temporally high-resolved fine dust measurement values, the user is provided with comprehensive information for the evaluation and assessment of the fine dust load in the test area.

The very compact and lightweight design as a portable handheld instrument with battery or mains operation as well as a battery operating time of up to 8 hours allow the Fidas® Frog to be used flexibly at a wide variety of measuring locations.
Fidas Frog

The Fidas® Frog communicates via WLAN with its wireless control panel (tablet).  This enables measurements to be taken at a distance between the actual measurement location and the operator of the Fidas® Frog, e.g. at poorly accessible measurement points. This concept also permits the integration of one or more Fidas® Frog into an existing network and control from a central PC, e.g. for comprehensive monitoring of a production facility.

The Fidas® Frog uses the recognized measurement technique of optical light scattering on individual particles and is equipped with an LED light source with high light intensity (dpmin = 180 nm), high light stability and long service life. The sensor and the evaluation routines of the Fidas® Frog are also used in the Fidas® 200, which is certified by the German Technical Inspection Agency (TÜV) for the monitoring of PM2.5 and PM10 in outdoor air, and have been validated against the gravimetric reference method in extensive comparison campaigns. The implementation of this proven technology and the extensive quality assurance measures in production (e.g. comparison of each Fidas® Frog with a certified Fidas® 200) ensure precise and quality-assured measurements.

The calibration of the measuring equipment can be easily and quickly checked on site at any time with the aid of a monodisperse test aerosol and adjusted if necessary.

The Fidas® Frog operates at a flow rate of 1.4 l/min and is equipped with sensors to measure ambient conditions, temperature, air pressure and relative humidity.

 

Operation:

The operation of the Fidas® Frog is intuitive and simple. All measurement series can be directly evaluated and compared using the user interface. Even during a measurement, messages about limit value exceedances are possible. These limit values can be defined according to legal requirements or individual requirements.
